I recently lost my best friend, a 16 year old dog—he was my everything.
I made the heart-wrenching decision to put him down because he couldn't walk anymore and had neurological issues. It's only been a few days and the grief is unlike anything I have experienced (even when compared to the death of friends or close family members).
Hopefully, I have a few decades of life left, and I absolutely love dogs but, I just can not imagine ever loving another dog, losing them, and going through this pain all over again.
So, for those of you who have lost a pet, what helped you move past grief and decide to take on the responsibility of caring and loving another pet—even with the knowledge that you will have to endure the pain of losing them?
