I’ve had my 3 year old cat for about 2 1/2 months. She was a shelter cat that originally came from a hoarder house. For 2 months, she hid in our bathroom. She only just started coming out and becoming pretty friendly. She’s had some issues with stretching her claws on us and flexing them when rolling on her belly. My husband and I generally try to walk away and ignore her to discourage this behavior. I badly wanted to get her claws trimmed since they are long and in case we accidentally get clawed by her. However with COVID-19, it’s been tough with groomers closed.
Another family member that is really good with cats volunteered to trim her claws. Since we’ve been social distancing, she’s never met the cat. Let me just say, it ended very badly . .she ran around the house and we had picked her up several times and finally had scruffed her and she proceeded to hiss and claw the family member. She didn’t get her claws trimmed in the end and is currently hiding in the bathroom again.
Do you think this is a huge set back? I feel terrible and think my cat hates me now. I was thinking really fast at the time and wrapped in the moment. I should have stopped when she started running out of fear.
Just getting this off my chest, because I’m really beating myself up over this.
