should i adopt a senior cat?

my family really wants to adopt another cat from the shelter. i really want a senior cat but my sister is concerned about how one would get along with the rest of our cats. we have four cats already; two are 4, one is 3, and one just turned 1. i can’t find anything on the internet about adopting a older cat into a group of younger cats that already have their own hierarchy. does it seem like a good idea to get an older cat? or should we get one closer to the ages of the other cats we already have. this sounds like a stupid question but i don’t wanna put extra stress on an older kitty.
