Ethical transitioning outdoor cat to indoor?

Hi I have a cat that I raised and grew up with. I am now planning to move out into an apartment. That apartment is on the highest floor so it is impossible to set up a system where my cat could go out. She has been an outside cat for all her life (she is 4 years old). She loves to go outside, usually she stays pretty close and checks in on me every hour or so ( peeks inside the window). I have the option of taking her with me into that new apartment. The apartment is huge and has a balcony all around it. I don't want to leave my cat at my parents house but I feel like she would never be happy again if she wouldnt be allowed outside. I however also think that my cat likes me. She sleeps in my bed every night and like I said she checks in on me every few hours. At the end of the day I dont know how cats function, I feel like she would definitely prefer the option to go outside than to have my company. Or do you think cats forget that they have once been allowed to go outside and eventually also be happy inside? I would be devastated leaving my cat behind but I dont want to be selfish and take her with me if that means my cat would be less happy.
