Fostering during College!

Hi! I’m thinking about fostering kittens during college since my workload significantly decreased and I do not go to in-person classes anymore. In short, I have experience as a dog owner (family pet) and I am relatively new to caring for cats.

I tried researching the answers to my questions, but I could not find the answer to some of them! So if you know the answer Or would like to share your experience, I would love to hear a response from any of you!

1) What if you are fostering an animal right before break (like thanksgiving) or going to be gone for 2 days, would you take them with you or what are the options available? I know different shelters have different policies, but what have you all experienced?

2) If I leave for 2 hours, should I leave the kittens in their designated room unattended or is it better for them to be crated?

3) Better to work with small or bigger shelters?

4) Is it normal for some fostering applications to take weeks? Mine is currently under review and it’s been about two weeks?
