My parents recently adopted a 7 year old long haired cat from the animal shelter and it sounded like he had a pretty rough go of it. He was very skittish at the shelter but since we got him home 4 days ago he has warmed up a lot. He sits with us and sleeps on our lap and isn't hiding much, like he did when we first brought him home. He seems generally pretty acclimated and happy (tail up/confident) other than the fact that we can't get him to eat much. The first few days we tried to give him the shelter food mixed with food we got him, just the shelter food, just treats but he really wanted nothing to do with any of it. Now, he eats a few bites but not much and not enough to sustain him long term. I've tried wet food, 2 different kinds of dry food, gravy/broth, even some ham in tiny pieces and he eats a little but not much. It's weird because he seems really interested at first and sniffs it but never eats it. Do you have any advice to get him to start eating normally? (He has been drinking water normally and doing both pee and poop in the litter box but just not much)
