Brought home a 1.5y/o kitty this afternoon. She's adorable, very affectionate, and has warmed up to my girlfriend and I incredibly fast.
To make her feel safe and comfortable, we have her in our bedroom along with her food, litter, and water. Things were fine for the first couple hours, but since about ~10pm she has been repeating the following pattern:
- wanders around the room investigating things and meowing in a concerned, scared tone over and over again
- seems to remember we're on the bed
- hops on bed and cuddles/purrs/calms down for about 5 minutes
-
leaves bed, meows endlessly
-
repeats over and over again
This has been going on for over 3 hours now, it's late and we'd love to get some sleep sooner than later.
She has eaten and drank from the bowls so she knows she has food and water. She hopped into the litter box earlier so she's good on that front.
I assume she's just scared and confused. Wondering if this is just how it'll be for the first few nights as she settles in, or if there's something I can do to get her to calm down for the night?
My only other thought is that we maybe could have put her in another room but then she'd be alone and I feel like that would be worse. We could open the door and let her wander the hallway/kitchen but she'd also have access to the stairs, and I worry if she starts meowing she'll wake our downstairs neighbours (they can't hear her from up in our apartment proper)
