Newly adopted 12 week old scared kitten

Hello, I recently adopted a 12 week old kitten and hope that this post can give me some insight/advice. I’ve only had him for 2 days, he mostly is under my bed and meows constantly. Sometimes I feel like there is progress when he ventures out into the rest of my room but if I make movements, he will run back under. He does come out to eat and use the litter box though. I’ll occasionally let him smell my hand and try to pet him, he’s rarely receptive to being pet but he does lick my hand most times I put it near him. We also sometimes play a game where he tries to smack my hand before I quickly move it away. Whenever I leave my room, he will meow until I’m back. I understand that the kitten is going through a big change right now since he has been separated from his mother and siblings but is there anything I should be doing doing differently? I don’t really have enough items to block my bed frame, should I temporarily get rid of it to get him out in the open more? He also doesn’t like to be held/picked up and will run if I try to bring him near me, I’ve tried a few times but stopped because I thought it’d prevent him from being more comfortable in the new environment. Sorry that this is is kind of a word vomit but tips would be helpful!
