How do i cope with giving up a pet

My husband and I got a kitten 2 months ago, it was our first pet together and was something we had talked about for a long time so we were super excited. Things were going well but we soon realised that she was extremely hyperactive all the time. She also went into heat crazy early (15 weeks) so we had to have her spayed alot earlier than planned. Despite me being home with her every day and providing lots of stimulation with playtime it became very clear that she had a strong urge to go outside and was developing cabin fever and the vet advised us to either get a second cat or let her go outside. Unfortunately we live in a first floor flat where letting her out was just not an option and we just don’t have the space for a second cat. We felt cruel keeping her indoors when she’s clearly so full of energy and wants to be an outdoor cat and didn’t feel it was right to give her any kind of medication to calm her down so in the end we decided to give her away to some friends who live in a big house out in the countryside where she can have the life she deserves. It broke our hearts and it was the hardest decision we’ve ever had to make but ultimately we wanted what was best for her and put her needs before ours. I know she will be loved and have a great life out there but i can’t help but feel guilty like ive let her down and i just feel so empty now. It’s like there’s a hole inside me and im just so incredibly sad and have no idea what to do with myself.
