Hi all,
I've seen about a million and one questions about ESA letters, websites, etc. I know the websites are scams, yet I haven't seen a situation quite like this. Your thoughts/advice are appreciated! I am trying to get my two cats registered as legit ESA's. I have Major Depressive Disorder & Generalized Anxiety/Panic Attacks. They help me cope and calm down when I cuddle with them, listen to them purr. My oldest cat died 6 months ago and my new cat has truly prevented me from spiraling - at least, I like to think so. I know a licensed mental health provider has to write an ESA letter - not about that ESA letter website life because I know they are scams and while some people have had luck, I don't wanna take the chance.
However, I went to my psychologist and she flat out said no, as she needs to have a "certification/training" and told me to go to my GP. My GP told me no, that I needed to go to my psychologist (GP is fully aware of conditions, she writes my med prescriptions). When I told my GP my psychologist couldn't do it because of training, she told me to call my insurance agency to find a mental health provider that CAN. I feel like my psych thought I meant like a service animal or something. Everybody I've spoken to says "Yeah my GP wrote a letter in 5 mins!" or "Yeah my psych wrote a letter!" Yet I can't get anybody to write an effing letter for me. I'm not presently in the market for another mental health provider so it seems pointless to waste their time/my money just so I can get a letter.
Anybody else out there in the world have these kinds of issues? I thought I'd have issues proving I needed one, not straight up getting one!
TLDR: My GP nor my mental health provider will write me an ESA letter.
