I am 23 yrs old and have mild depression. I have fostered animals in the past, and it has really helped me with my depression. I know that eventually I would like to have a pet of my own. I am working remotely for the next 7 months and thought this would be the perfect time to get a dog, as I would have the time to train it and bond with it. However, in about 7-9 months I plan on moving to a new city and I will be working 9-5pm at an office. When I get home I would like to be able to relax and chill or be social with friends. I worry that a dog may keep me from going out and being social, as I will feel a lot of guilt leaving it. And I fear that even if I dont go out I will get home and not be able to relax because my dog will just want to play for hours.
This has made me think a cat is a better option...However, I worry that if I want to travel or move, cats are much less flexible. If I had to be gone for a month or two for a work project, I could always leave my dog with my parents. However, I could not leave them my cats as they are allergic.
I know animals have always helped me with my depression, but I am so lost as to which pet would be the right fit. I would appreciate some advice!
