A friend for my cat

I got a kitten about 3 months ago. Probably more like 4 months ago now. I kept it inside for 6 weeks (it was 4 months old when I got it) and then slowly introduced it to the outdoors by letting it out for half an hour at a time and then a couple of hours outside supervised and now I just let it out when it wants to go out but only when I'm home. When I'm at work I keep it inside. I also keep it inside when I go to bed.

Anyway when I was keeping it inside all the time this cat next door which must be a 4 to 5 year old big tom cat came over and was constantly at the door just laying there and the two cats would try to touch each other through the screen and that cat would meow whenever it was at the screen for my cat to run to the screen door to meet it. And of course when I finally let my cat out there first contact and embrace was a sight to see. And ever since then they have been basically inseparable. It is as if this other cat has taken on a parent role for my cat.

Fast forward a month after letting my cat out the neighbours bought themselves a 2nd dog - the first dog is a real miniature type dog which that cat could handle because it is quite a sizeable cat and that dog is used to cats as they had another cat before this one (the cat is an adopted cat that they only got 9 months ago). But this new dog seems like it doesn't like cats and now this cat is spending about 90% of its time over at my house and during the day sleeping on a pile of dirt under my cubby house and the neighbours are none the wiser nor do I think they really care.

So I'm thinking of putting a bed in the cubby house now but I'm also thinking it is close to me having to feed it. It is close to winter now and I reckon I'll see that cat sleeping under the cubbyhouse in the cold so I'm starting to worry about it.
