Hi All,
Sorry in advance for the long post.
I'm in the process of planning out the details of a cross-country move from Louisville, KY to Seattle, WA. For reference, this is roughly 2,400 miles or 33 hours of non-stop driving. This will likely be broken up into 3 days of 12ish hours of driving, which would account for gas, food, and restroom breaks, etc. We would be staying in a hotel for 3 nights, as well. The other important details are that we are bringing our 2 dogs and our cat with us.
Somewhat opposite to most people's experience with cats, our cat doesn't fuss in the car, but he's also never been in the car longer than about 30 mins at a time. I honestly think he would be okay, but the kicker is that our 2 dogs have really bad anxiety. They have been on "longer" trips in the car (roughly 2ish hour at a time, but they completely freak out for the first 30ish mins in the car. They are now on a daily anti-anxiety medication that seems to be helping but I'm worried about them getting the cat all worked up. And to be clear, all 3 of them will be in the same vehicle. I'm honestly the most worried about our cat, even though he's never presented any problems in the car over the past 2 years because cats don't do so well with new/sudden changes.
Has anyone done a cross-country move with a cat? If so, what was it like planning out feedings/times to let him use the litter box? Also, can anyone attest to flying being a better option for a cat? Despite being costly, a non-stop flight would only be about 5 hours of flying, plus an hour in the car to the airport, and that seems like a pretty viable option. I would NEVER check a pet, so I would keep him with me the entire time in the cabin. Has anyone flown with a cat? If so, how do they react to the cabin pressure changes?
Any and all advice would be helpful! Thanks!
