So my 10 year old cat needs dental surgery. The Vet has informed me that he has a heart murmur though (stage 3- they think) they have advised me that there is a chance that he may not come out of the anesthesia and have advised me to get an ultrasound. They have already completed a chest X-ray.
Where I am, the dental surgery is costing me $2000-2500. They quoted me an extra $1200 for the ultrasound. They didn’t really explain to me the benefit of the ultrasound but they said it would tell them more about the heart murmur and that they could adjust the treatment accordingly?
My question is: what would you do? I feel so stuck. I love this cat more than anything else in my life but I fear the teeth may abscess as it could take me months to find the extra cash to get him an ultrasound that might not even come in use. Not to mention $1200 is a lot of money to me and it has already taken long enough to get together the funds for just the dental surgery. I’m just really looking for any kind of advise or suggestions.
