So I’ve been locked in, still graduating High School and I’m obviously not going anywhere for college. But since I’m getting more independent, my parents have made it clear my room is my room, I get to do what I want. I just got a job, at home as well, minimal traveling. And honestly, the idea of getting a cat sounds like something I like. I have college friends in their apartments and they have a cat that walks around, they like the space. The thing is though, I think it’s for the best that I keep my cat in my room. My mom’s a neat freak, doesn’t hate pets, but she keeps our dogs outside (dogs are super huge and love the outdoors anyways) and cleans her clothes whenever there’s fur. I like the idea of it being able to walk in our hardwood floor, but I do not plan on really making them regular guests, more like just whenever we step outside. My plan honestly is to keep them in my room, where I genuinely spend most, if not all of my time, anyways. I’ve got my entertainment, a huge water bottle, it’s my place and I love it. I just got my room remodeled, changed the layout of furniture and I have a whole area of space after cleaning around, enough to literally lay on the floor which I don’t remember having ever. I’ve got a cute spot on the floor by the window that has nothing there, seems perfect for a bed, a litter box. I genuinely intend to go mostly all out, get the boxes I have from packages, set them up, let them roam. My room makes me happy so I think a small four legged creature could enjoy it with me. Though, I do intend to step out onto the front yard, maybe a walk with them in my backpack so they can get some fresh air. I read somewhere that having a regular schedule or stability in these times helps a lot, so a personal pet would totally be on my list.
My room isn’t a shoebox but of course, it’s not the size of a living room. My friend has a bunch of cats since he keeps taking in pregnant ones, and I’d also look for a young one in a shelter that would be happy here. I post this to ask if it’s a bad idea or not since I see some mixed reception online about keeping cats in one room primarily. This plan could completely fall through anyways if my parents aren’t totally on board, but I feel like I wanna know if this is possible, healthy and an alright idea in the first place. Appreciate any input.
