Someone apparently called Animal Control on us, which resulted in an early morning wakeup call. The complaint said that we had two dogs that we never let out of the house. My boyfriend works third shift and takes them out both before and after work. Plus, I take them out too.
The officer agreed to let me bring the dogs outside for her to check on them since my boyfriend was sound asleep. All she found was two dogs in serious need of grooming. Our regular groomer has been super backed up ever since she reopened. The soonest we could get them in anywhere is on Tuesday.
The officer also let me know she would be back next Sunday for a home inspection and expected us to let her inside. Two kinda issues though. First is that my boyfriend's schedule with work is crazy. He'll likely be sound asleep again after working a 14 hour shift. Second, we're packing up to move next month. The house is a little insane right now. While our babies have space to roam, play, and sleep, our house looks highly disorganized.
I think it was most likely our landlord's wife who called on us. She's wanted us to move since last year. Our area has a housing shortage right now, and she thinks that they can significantly increase the rent for our place. She also called in housing code violations on us, which led to them getting a massive fine from the city for things they never fixed.
That's the big reason why we're moving. There's a missing window in our living room, a 3+ foot long crack in the ceiling, etc. Plus, we started picking up on a mildew smell, which turned out to be a huge leak in the bathroom.
Will Animal Control hold it against us that there's stuff wrong here? Do we have to let them come inside at all? We're hoping to be out by the middle of June and will be in a different county/city. I really hate the idea of someone walking around our house while my boyfriend sleeps and there are cardboard boxes around every corner. It definitely freaks me out too that I've heard so many horror stories about what they can do! Our dogs have licenses, are up to date on their vaccines, and will be groomed when she comes back.
