I wanted an older cat. She's 12 and a total sweetie. It broke my heart to see her in that cage and I had to have her. They did a full exam on her right before the adoption and I trust(ed) this shelter. The shelter told me that one of her kidney values was "slightly elevated- but nothing to worry about." The first thing I noticed was how much water she drank and how much she was peeing. I took her a month later to get it checked out, and they told me right then and there that she was in kidney failure. I couldn't believe it- this is my first cat I've adopted alone.
Fast forward 6 months, I give her Sub-Q fluids every other day and she's on a strict prescription diet. Other than that, it doesn't seem like there's much I can do. She's a great cat and I love her, but I'm still heart broken. I can't bring myself to look at the ugly side of this disease on the internet. Shes not throwing up and is in okay shape- just very skinny. I'm pissed at the shelter. Isn't it unethical to sign off on that. How could they not know?? The signs were all there. I wonder if they just wanted to get rid of her because she's older?
Despite everything, I'm happy I have her- even if she's sick. Any advise is greatly welcomed. Thank you
Xx
