Litter box to Balcony

I have been thinking of moving the litter box to the balcony. It is a safe balcony on the 7th floor, concrete barricade. The litter is self-cleaning and there is a nearby outlet. The door will most likely be closed. Is this is a good idea? I read that cats can hold their urine/feces for 24-48 hours. If every morning I open that door and allow my kitty to urinate/feces on schedule, is this healthy? Should I consider keeping the slightly door open at all times? Will she learn to signal me if she needs to go to the washroom if it is closed? Has anyone tried this and are their cats communicative? Do they ever end up peeing on the couch or carpet if they can't go? My cat has never had showed these signs of defecating on anything other than her litter.
