Just some background : My cat is about 8 years old (himalayan, F, spayed). I got her from a rescue 7 years ago as her breeders surrendered her while pregnant. She's always been very anxious but always trusted me out of everyone. Past 3 years she had been throwing up about 2x a week. It was always her food. I've done numerous food trials. Always transitioned slowly and safely. She always ended up puking the food. Fast forward to December 2020, she wasn't able to use her hind legs properly all of a sudden so I ended up taking her to emerg. She was diagnosed with IVDD (MRI, x rays). She was put on a lot of meds for her pain and inflammation and her vomiting turned into a daily occurrence, sometimes 2-3 times a day, rare occasions 5-7. Prior to her injury, my vet suggested an RX food, didn't help after 4 months. We saw an internal medicine specialist who gave my cat a suspected diagnosis of IBD. We tried the medication route which made things much worse (increased vomiting, severe projectile diarrhea, lethargy). Even on cerenia, she was still throwing up. She ended up having surgery 2 months ago and after she was cleared to be removed from crate rest, she began to overgroom. Her legs aren't even better. She's throwing up hairballs daily. I have tried so many things to help her. From medications, RX foods and now to natural home made foods (past 2 months and novel proteins with EZcomplete premix). I do give her omega 3 6 9 daily, probiotic and multivitamin. I've tried everything for her. Biopsy is out of the question. It would require another surgery and I can't put her through that. MRI, x rays, bloodwork, ultrasound, surgery, NUMEROUS vet visits have also cost a fortune .I've seen 2 specialists on top of my vet + a holistic vet. I feel stuck and have no idea how to help her anymore. I'm not rehoming her or putting her down so that is out of the question and I kindly ask you do not mention anything regarding that. She is happy overall but I know this is a huge issue and I've reached out to so many professionals, groups for cats with IBD and no one has been able to help. If you have any experience with any of this at all, please share. I feel like I'm just dying inside and want to help her live as normal of a life as possible. She has lost about 1lb since December due to muscle atrophy from crate rest for a few months and we are trying to slowly but surely build it back along with physio. But it can't happen with the constant vomiting. I feel like the professionals have failed us in a way. I know every situation is unique but NOTHING has helped her. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I take the best care of her and have made so many (worth it) sacrifices to help her heal in any way possible.
Edit: I've tried adding pumpkin 2x a week then tried olive oil about 1x a week in her food. Nothing has helped. Even tried feline gut soothe which is supposed to help from adored beast, no progress. She has licked one side of her back bald from when they shaved her for surgery and very few hairs are growing there. Grooming her is very difficult because she is still recovering and won't allow me to touch certain areas.
