I have an 8 month old pure bred golden retriever who is very picky with his food. We used to only feed him kibble (3-5 months), but then he grew bored of it and would not eat it at all. Then, we tried adding all kinds of food to the kibble in hopes for him to want to eat (carrots, potatoes, broccoli, bone broth, etc.). This worked for a while, then soon again he would not want to eat. Even tried to hand feed him, he still would eat some, but not a whole lot.
We are worried about this because we want him to grow big and strong, but for an 8 month old golden retriever, his size is about a 6 or 7 month old golden retriever and we don't see him growing anymore. If we do not give effort to feed him, he would probably eat 1 cup (he eats around 3 cups a day if we try to encourage and force him to eat) worth of kibble a day even though for his age, he must eat at least 6 cups according to the guide in the packaging.
We are really worried and not sure how to go about this situation, should we try feeding him a raw diet instead? Should we just let him be if he doesn't want to eat? When we told our vet about this, their advice is just to not feed him if he doesn't want to eat, but we really want him to grow big and strong, but by the looks of it because he does not want to eat much, he won't grow to be big despite the fact that when we got him as a 2 month old, he is the heaviest of his litter. I really need some advice. Thank you.
