Our neighbors have kicked their cat out and are no longer taking care of it. I first noticed the cat when I saw a shaved black cat running around. It is very friendly and looked very skinny. I took it into the vet and they checked for a chip, which it had. They claimed they could not take the cat because it had a chip. They tried calling the owners and so did I but they are not answering calls or texts about the cat. Flash forward a month and the cat is clearly much skinnier. It's still nice but just about follows around anyone who gives it attention. I'm worried for the cat, but not sure what I can do being the vet said there was nothing they could do with it being chipped and all. I would take the cat but I recently moved in with someone else who has 2 dogs and a cat and I had to bring my dogs into an already full house. So another cat is not an option. What can I do, if anything? Any advice or resources will help.
