I have a 17 year old pomeranian that's been diagnosed with kidney disease and I've been having trouble feeding him. He didn't like the prescription diets by Hills, Purina and Royal Canine. I had to cook him a somewhat low phosphorus recipe at home.
I eventually found Raynes Restrict-Ckd, which he liked for about 10 days until I ordered a new case of food and the texture and smell changed which caused him to stop eating it. Now he won't eat almost anything (I tried to feed him different wet foods with phosphate binders).
The only thing he will eat is boiled chicken by itself. I'm trying to figure out if it's safe to even try a raw diet with an older dog with kidney disease. His teeth are in bad shape as well but he can't go under anesthesia for dental work, so I'm not sure if that would make it hard for him to eat raw food if that is even the best path for him.
I do understand that I have to do tons of research first before putting him on a raw diet or maybe even take him to a Veterinary nutritionist. I am prepared to do the research if I need be.
