We have 3 cats, 2 (one boy, one girl) originally belonged to my sister whereas one was a stray we just ended up letting her live on the porch. This stray is a bit older and have shown signs of aggressiom towards my sister's two younger cats (10 months) in the past. However we thought they got over it as they all started sharing a bed just fine. The two younger cats does however try not to get too close to that stray or get on her bad side.
A couple of weeks ago, the stray gave birth. Unexpectedly, my sister's cat ended up pregnant and wasn't due until next month but ended up prematurely giving birth yesterday. Comparing how the stray mothered her kittens versus how my sister's cat mother's hers, it's completely different. My sister's cat gave birth to 4 kittens then she ran off to go sleep in a different bed. After an hour, she ended up birthing another one. While she was in the process, the stray got close to her and hissed really aggressively. Sister's cat showed her fangs and then took off, dragging the baby who was still attached via umbilical cord. Once that one came out, she cleaned it and went to sleep.
She never went back to care for the other 4 that were crying for her in the first bed. We had to forced her in with the other kittens and locked them in together. The first bed is a shared a bed with the stray cat.
What could be causing her to not want to nurse these kittens? Is it the stray? They did fight 3x when sister's cat was in labor. Is it her young age? She was dragged into the woods 3x by another aggressive cat, which we think may had raped her and caused her to prematurely give birth.
We think it's time to chase off that stray cat but waiting until she's done nursing before we do so. We also have other animals that she has clawed or hurt recently.
