Title is self explanatory, but a bit of background.
I'm soon moving with two roommates in a new apartment. It's big enough for three (think like 90 m2), and Roomate A already has a 5 years old cat.
When we first expressed the moving, I talked about my wish to adopt a dog. I want to have cats and dogs, I'm certain, but it's easier to introduce a cat after a dog in the household than the contrary because cats are more territorial, which is why I'd like to adopt the dog first.
I've talking long about it with Rommates A and B, even updating them about the breed and which would be easier for us to navigate with, so they're both well aware.
Well, Roomate A has since long wanted a second cat, and there's an opportunity to have the one type she'd like, near us. She has been hesitating about it (me saying I'd like a dog made her think about this idea if à having a second cat again) and this week she has now made up her mind about it and says she'll adopt it from our friend.
Now, I'm not against 2 cats and 1 dog. Not at all, but I'm wondering if in a 90 m2 flat, it'll be doable. Her room would be upstairs, mine on the ground level (apartment is on two levels) so it'd be fine theoretically. Another issue is that, since I told her about our friend housing the cat she'd like, she hasn't contacted our friend about it to make her 5 yo cat and the kitten meet at all. I've seen the kitten many times, he's well behaved and quite sweet, and it had even swayed my mind toward maybe choosing him instead of a dog despite my initial thoughts.
Which has, in turn, made me wonder if for us there eliving together adopting another cat wouldn't be better than 2 cats and 1 dog (in the event of we all get the pet we'd like, Roomate A and I). I'm going for a Shiba, so quite well behaved and not too noisy, and I'm not adopting until at leadt half a year.
I'm unsure about the whole situation, what would be the best course of actions, so if anyone would like to pitch in and give their thoughts on it, I'd greatly appreciate it.
