At what point should I request medical records from a rescue?

A few months ago, my old man cat had sadly passed away from kidney/thyroid issues, and for the last few weeks I have been looking on Petfinder for a new little furball to adopt.

About a week or so ago, my eye landed on a gorgeous kitten that belonged to this rescue:

I have since spoken with the owner and, this morning, my application was approved! Hooray!

Well, here's the thing-- I know on their page they state they are a 'privately run' shelter, and to be honest I don't really know what the difference is between them and other shelters (I have always came across abandoned kittens outside, or gifted abandoned cats or kittnes by family members, if you could believe it. I've never adopted from a shelter until now.), so I'm not sure what I should be asking or what I should and shouldn't be expecting.

I stupidly waited until my application was approved to Google the rescue, and I see a couple of negative reviews from them, making me nervous. I have since emailed the owner and requested some medical records, to make sure the kitten (approx 12 weeks old) has gotten all of the necessary vaccines.

However, I have not yet paid for the kitten-- they wanted me to come Saturday and pickup, as well as pay with either Venmo, Zelle, Paypal, or check (they said check was least preferred). Can I still request and receive the medical records before then? Is it likely that they will give me the records before paying, or do shelters usually give records after you pay and pick up the kitten? I just want to make sure that the kitten was taken care of while there before driving 100+ miles to pick them up on Saturday...

Thoughts?
