Super late post, doubt many people are up -- but anyway, I tried reading as much as I could about how to get a cat back to your place. But there are so many contradicting answers.
I was kinda hoping if you had something clever that worked if you could tell me!!
I'm trying my best not to freak out. Here's the hot and short of it -- left for...maybe 15 mins. Door didn't close fully, cat no where to be seen. Got treats and played youtube cat meows(lol?) and I saw him! at the back of the apartment complex! And he ended up running away from me, of course. but on the other side where he ran is just a garage(i checked 40x under all cars and nooks and crannies.) no idea where he went. he could have also ran THROUGH the gate and onto the street but i literally couldn't find it.
when i fostered him he was already a street cat, but omg, he's SCARED of noises. so i...am just hopeful that he can handle his own, but i like, am v distraught and don't know what to do. at all. obviousy name calling and treats, there's no way he's gonna respond. he barely does that INSIDE the house when he's in a mood/on high alert and hiding.
rn, i have placed a smelly food can outside my door and have it cracked an am on my couch in front of it just seeing if he'll show. Idk, i just need advice! i'm like, equally ashamed and embarassed and i'm gonna try to make flyers and post them to my neighbors tomorrow. but any tips or just honestly, stories where this all turned out okay??? i feel like i may not see him for a while but maybe he'll show up?? do cats do that? i feel like i lost him forever but like, i know he's around but idk if he knows how to get back to my place.
okay sorry for the ramble, just fully new parent freaking out rn.
