We have a friend of the family lined up to pet sit and we want to pay them a fair rate.
We will be gone five days.
We are in the greater Los Angeles area, in the suburbs.
We have 3 cats and a dog and we're looking at three possible scenarios.
Scenario 1: sitter comes twice a day to feed them all and to let the dog out and back in.
Scenario 2: sitter comes three times a day, feeding them twice and letting the dog out and in an additional time.
(We're not sure which scenario the dog needs - she's older and doesn't go out much but we'll figure this out ahead of time and do whichever she needs.)
Scenario 3: sitter stays at our house, feeds the animals twice a day, and lets the dog out and back in as needed.
We don't actually care about having a house sitter because we don't have anything of value and live in a safe area, but the sitter lives with their parents so we thought that they might enjoy some autonomy and of course the animals would all love having someone there more often.
The dog doesn't need walks because we have a big back yard, and we can pick up the poop when we get back. We might ask the sitter to clean the litterbox though.
The cats get supplements sprinkled on their food and one needs encouragement to eat or he'll let the others bully him out of the way.
Otherwise, all four are low maintenance - no health problems etc.
The sitter is an adult (25) friend of the family so in any of these scenarios we will let them use our car to get back and forth if they don't have a car to use. We'll also stock the kitchen, tell them to use whatever amenities they want in the way of tv and game consoles, etc.
We would like to offer them their choice of Scen 1/2 (whichever works for the dog) OR Scen 3, whichever they would prefer.
We don't want to take advantage, but we also can't afford to overpay.
We are going away again over Labor Day, so we want to offer enough that they might be willing to do it again.
What would be fair rates to offer under these three scenarios? The friend doesn't do this routinely, so they don't know what to charge.
