How to deal with a 'lonely' 8 year old cat?

Hello. (Incoming unnecessary details ahead)

I live alone in a 700 sq ft apartment. It's decently sized, a reasonable hallway as well.

I've had my cat for, well, 8 years lol. I've raised her by myself and gave her all the love in the world and I used to take her out to parks with a leash ever since she was a kitten to let her spread her wings a little bit since I don't think being in an apartment 24/7 is too healthy even for an indoor cat.

As of right now, I'm currently taking college classes + I have a decent-paying job but it does take some of my time. I'm not talking like a 16hr shift, but I'm definitely not around my apartment as frequently as before and I've been neglecting my cat a bit (fully fed and loved still, but I stopped playing with her and taking her out as often) and she's become extremely needy and meows constantly, especially during the night and its even worse when she's alone (from my security cameras).

I've been thinking about getting a second cat but I don't think my cat is going to accept anything other than a kitten. And I simply do NOT have the time to take care of a tiny kitten, and I don't really trust having my 8 year old cat alone with a 14 week old kitten.

TLDR; I've been neglecting my 8yo cat (still fully fed and loved but no longer playing with her or taking her out as much as before) because I've become too busy. My cat announces her loneliness 24/7, which was uncommon. Should I bring another cat in her life (Not a kitten, I don't have time) or is it too risky? What would you suggest I do?
