I have 2 4 month old cats who are healthy and active but are quite stinky when their tails are up

I've read that young cats dont yet know how to clean themselves as well as older cats and that with age, they will smell less bad. However, My last cat never smelled, even as a kitten. Any answers or advice would be much appreciated.
