Is it normal for female cats in heat to go missing for days or week? Are there instances of female cats going back?

2 days ago, our 9 month old female cat has been in heat for like 2 days that time. But since yesterday, we haven’t seen her until now. She most of the time sleeps somewhere outside more than sleeping inside our house, but we always see her when its daytime though. I’ve read stories of cats missing for 6 weeks then come back eventually. Is it really possible? Should we still wait for her?:(
