I just started a new job 2 days ago with a much longer commute than I’ve had before. It’s an hr each way plus 8 hours of work meaning my dog is alone for 10 hours during the week (I don’t work weekends.) It is only my second day of working this new job and this has been all I can think about!
A little bit more info about him. He’s a 8.5 yr old staffy that is usually more of a couch potato. Besides a few times in his life when he has been sick, he has never gone to the bathroom inside and is well potty trained. He has energy bursts but overall he’s pretty laid back. I have a pet camera and can see that his usual routine consists of sleeping on the couch, sleeping by his bed, window watching for a while, and then sleeping some more. He also has plenty of toys to keep himself occupied which he does play with a lot too. Usually when I come home from work he wakes up when he hears me walk in. I’m torn because part of me feels like it might be fine but another part of me feels like 10+ hours is an awfully long time.
I live alone so I do not have anyone else to take him out. I have a friend that lives close by and works from home that will usually walk him during her lunch break on days I am held up at work but this is done as a favor and not a good long term solution. I walk him at 6:30am as I am about to leave for work and around 4:30pm when I get home. I have been looking into dog walking apps such as wag to get someone to come in and walk him every day around noon for ~20 mins however I do feel a bit uncomfortable about letting someone in my home when I am not present.
If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!
