Looking for a little advice as a new cat owner.
In April, I adopted 2 sister littermates. Ty Lee was very sweet and friendly, but Mai was extremely scared and hissy. After taking them both home, Mai hid for about a month, but now Mai no longer hisses at me. This is great, and I can pet her affectionately, but she still hisses at Ty Lee whenever she gets close to her. Sometimes Ty Lee tries to play with her, and again she just hisses at her.
I've been in touch with the previous owner, and he's sent me videos and pictures of them occasionally cuddling and licking each other, and says it's really weird that Mai is hissing at Ty Lee.
Is this just a matter of even more time than 3 months to get used to their new home? I want to use positive reinforcement, but if I try to give them treats at the same time then they come together and Mai hisses at Ty Lee, and I don't want to reinforce that behavior with treats. If they are in the same room, they're ok, just if Ty Lee gets close to Mai. Also, Mai seems like a hypocrite when she sometimes smells Ty Lee's rear side for a bit, but if Ty Lee tries to smell hers she hisses her away.
Some advice is appreciated.
