I brought 2 year old Monk home yesterday afternoon. I put her in basecamp to get her comfy, see where the litterbox was and everything. Toys, water, some treats and some scratchers and places to hide! I had to dip out and back in quickly to get something else for her, but she was waiting by the door and ran out :(
I let her do her own thing and just explore my small house for a bit. I shut most of the rooms off to her, anyway. After a while of hiding under the couch, my girlfriend and I picked her up and placed in briefly in the litterbox in basecamp. She stayed in there for a while, snoozing, hiding in her tube, all that good stuff.
But a bit later in the night she started meowing, and I felt bad. I opened the door and she waited a minute before coming out. She went into my office with me and we hung out, playing for 30 minutes or so, cuddling and petting. I gave her treats after playing and put the wand away. She's so sweet.
She's been hiding under my recliner in the office though, now. I talk and sing to her sometimes. I also fed her wet food to try and coax her back in basecamp, but she just likes me and my office.
I'm hoping it's not a bad thing I've done. I hope the six or so hours she was in basecamp she knew to use the litterbox in the future (she hasn't gone yet).
Anyone can give me some advice? She's just hiding behind me under the recliner. I've been talking and singing to her haha.
