Should I go through with getting a pet turtle?

Hi!

I'm a junior in high school and am probably going to be getting two pet turtles (my dad is arranging for adoption from a friend of a friend). I would love to care for a turtle, though I have limited experience with them. I don't even remember holding one (it was v long ago). Also, I have never generally been an "animal person"- scared of dogs, etc. I've heard of people changing and bonding with their own pet, though.

I have some mental health issues, and I'm not sure if I'm up to taking care of the turtles. I'm hoping that it will help me strive to be better and take care of them, though. Plus, I'm so busy with school and ecs and will leave for college in two years (my dad will probably take care of them then but I am not going to be abandoning them. I will make sure that they do get a home). I'm hoping to put my energy into taking care of my turtles but as you can probably see, the odds are stacked against me.

I have done a ton of research on turtles and they do require some advanced care. I want to give these turtles a loving home, though, as they sound like they haven't been in proper care.

Please tell me if I'm being an ass to these turtles by wanting to keep them. Also, please please do share any relevant experience/tips you have relating to this.
