I’m 23 years old and about to move out of my parents home to my own place in a different city.
My cat has always been more attached to me than to the rest of my family - he sleeps with me every night, follows me around all day and waits for me at the door when I return home.
Last year I rented an apartment in a different city too but my cat had my brother at home all day to keep him company so he stayed in my parents house. Still my family said he was miserable and was meowing all day, and that he was only calm when I returned home on the weekends.
He can be a bit of an anxious cat so I’m scared that moving him to a new place will be traumatic for him or will create changes in his behavior - practically he’s been a really convenient cat who ate from his bowl and used his litter box no matter where the thing would be. I’m paranoid he’ll start hiding around or will start “marking” his territory around the new apartment. He is neutered but still I don’t want to traumatize him.
My brother has already moved out so me leaving too would mean he’ll be alone from morning until my parents return from work in the evening. And they could take care of his basic needs like food, water and cleaning but they don’t really play with him or keep him active.
So tldr should I move out with my cat who’s attached to me or would that be too traumtizing for him?
