How easy is it for fleas to ACTUALLY spread

Let me preface this with a little background: I'm sure everyone is tired of flea posts. I was watching a friend's reptile for a couple days (showed up to feed and water him for less than an hour). There are two other cats in the house, who I never pet. The last time I was over there, I noticed fleas hopping onto my legs. Understandably, I freaked the hell out and left immediately, shook my shoes down before I got in my car. I saw one flea jump on me in my car and shook it off. When I got home, I scoured my pets and treated them with topical treatment and my home with flea spray, vacuumed, washed everything etc. Now it's been a couple of days and I briefly stopped by a friend's house to pick something up, and pet his dog. Now I'm freaking out thinking that I gave him fleas. My question is how easily do fleas ACTUALLY spread from house to house? The internet makes it seem like it's a 100% chance of this happening, so I'd like some honest answers not from a site trying to sell me something....
