Our family adopted a pitbull / boxer mix 5 years ago from a shelter. We felt we were doing our part by adopting and not going to a breeder (which we still won’t ever do). At the shelter, he seemed pretty meek and a little scared. Of course, we had 0 idea of his background, and we still don’t.
He was/is extremely good with my toddler and overall a snuggle buddy with us all. We had a baby a few years ago and he was/is still great with him.
Problem: we moved to another state and are renting a home that is affordable for us and there’s no fenced yard. We ordered a very highly rated ground stake and very tough 30’ cable for dogs. Letting him out 5+ times a days plus walks was working great for a while then I must have not clipped the cable on his collar and he bit a neighbor’s dog. Luckily the dog was fine, just shaken up.
Now, our “industrial strength” dog cable completely snapped after a year and attacked our other neighbor’s dog. Dodged a bullet again because their pup was fine, not even a vet visit. Left a negative Amazon review as the structure of the cable was completely denigrated.
I’m feeling like there isn’t anything on the market I can trust. This cable had 5K 5 star reviews. Feeling helpless.
We take him on walks , but he really only does his business in the backyard and likes to layout in the sun. So I don’t want to limit his outside time to just walks. Thanks for any advice!!
