Dog suddenly crippled... is there anything we can do???

Our dog is 14 years old and has been in great health for his age. The only way you can tell his age is the grey on his face. Otherwise, he’s extremely sprightly in nature - normally.

On Sunday night he started to yelp when he got off the couch to go outside. He acted like he was tender - like he’d gotten injured.

The vet prescribed him muscle relaxers and pain meds and he was on them all week. He even started to improve a little and become more lively. Though he did still cry out here and there.

But last night his paw started to curl under him when he walked and it would make him sound out, and stumble.

He went to the vet again today and they essentially said that his brain doesn’t know where his feet are, and that if he doesn’t improve, putting him down wouldn’t be the worst option.

All day today he had trouble standing. And he’s hardly responsive unless my stepdad encourages him. He ate some chicken and rice but he hasn’t used the bathroom since last night.

We are hoping that we can take him to a holistic vet and find out other options for recovery. He’s indeed an older fellow, but up until this week, we would never have foreseen anything like this happening.

Is there some way we can help him pull through? Is this definitely a spinal issue??
