Is getting a second cat always the best option?

I have the sweetest male tabby cat who is about 2 years old. I adopted him when he was 4 months old. However he is SUPER active and high energy, and has now gotten into this behavior of treating me like his “prey” and seemingly biting me for no reason.

There is never any hissing that comes with it and he seems to strike randomly. I’m gone for about 8 hours a day at work and I admit I don’t spend as much time playing with him as I used to. This has made me wonder if I should get him a friend to play with and chill with when I’m gone. However I’m so scared of things going wrong. I’ve researched a lot about how to introduce cats and I’m willing to put in the work, I just can’t shake the thought that if they don’t get along I’m screwed. Please help!
