Is it just me or do animals know when we need extra love?

I am a 22F and I grew up around dogs. My family has two labs with them a few hours away from where I live and a few months ago a adopted a kitten. These animals have brought so much joy to my life. I have seen it many times with our labs but have been surprised and touched at the love and affection I have received from the sweet cat I adopted. I adopted her with the hopes she could help me with some of the mental health struggles I have been having. She has been so loving, much more than I expected. I had very little experience with cats so I didn't really know what to expect. She is incredibly affectionate and loving. She wants to be with me and lay on my lap and snuggle as much as she can. She curls up next to me when I do homework or play piano or guitar. She cuddles up next to me when I sleep and seems to not mind giving me extra snuggles when my depression and anxiety get bad.

Yesterday I was having a bad day mentally and was sitting on the floor with my knees to my chest on the verge of tears. My sweet cat slipped under my arms and curled up on my lap. She stayed there for a long time and calmed me down. I don't know if it was a coincidence or not but she seemed to know I needed that. Does anyone else have experiences like this with their animals?
