Unable to find new home for my cat, what are my other options?

Sadly, we have to rehome one of our cats because he doesn’t get along with our first cat and we can’t offer the space and attention he needs. Our apartment is too small to separate the two cats all the time and he gets bored due to small area he has to explore. I have posted in a few rehoming groups and websites (adopt-a-pet, get your pet, and two rehoming facebook groups in my area). Apart from a few likes on my facebook posts, no one has expressed interest. I can give it some more time but we are unable to keep him indefinitely and would like to figure this out in the next few weeks. What are my next best options if I can’t find a home for him through these channels?

I of course want to avoid surrendering him to the shelter if I can. I know rescues are another option, but is it common for them to take a surrendered pet and have it be fostered by one of the foster parents in their network? That way I can still keep in touch but he can be cared for in someone’s home until he’s adopted. I’m getting worried because I see so much more interest in rehoming posts for dogs and kittens, but adult cats don’t seem to get as much attention.
