Very Healthy Young Cat with Persistent Crystals

I have been dealing with problems with my cats urinary system for over a month now and I don’t know what more to do. He is an indoor one year old grey cat that was abandoned as a kitten. He is a healthy weight, active (he plays fetch very well), he drinks lots of water and I use a wood based litter.

When I originally took him to the vet they found E. coli and crystals. He’s been on some different antibiotics, anti-inflammatory/pain medicine, urethral dilation medication and most recently was at the vet with a catheter sedated for 4 days where they tested his urine and found no more infection.

During all this it seemed like he would have periods where it was getting better and then he would start struggling to urinate again and I would take him back to the vet. He’s on a special diet now and has been home with me for 3 days but he is still frequently urinating. I’m so stressed about it as it seems like we’ve done everything and nothing is working, I’ve now spent almost $2k at the vet and I just don’t know what to do at this point. For now I am not going to take him back to the vet unless there is blood or he is unable to urinate, any tips would be a HUGE help I’m am so miserable.
