We have a giant orange tabby cat who regularly traverses our front yard and driveway in the evening. At first I thought he was a stray, but now I think he may “belong” to the family next door. He is quite fat and visually it is very obvious that he is intact. When he’s not in our yard, he’s sitting on my neighbor’s porch, which is why I have suspicions that he belongs to them or at a minimum they are feeding him.
This cat has sprayed our front door a few times now, and my indoor cats frequently freak out when they see him through the front window. He is becoming a nuisance, and my indoor neutered male has started spraying the front window after he seems him. (And yes my cat has been to the vet and checked for underlying disease; after many tests the vet agreed the spraying is a behavioral issue.)
Now before you ask why I don’t simply go talk to my neighbors about it, let me explain that we are not on friendly terms due to other nuisance issues. For example we also have problems with them not picking up dog poop, so our entire neighborhood stinks in the summer. Many people in the neighborhood have tried to resolve other issues with them, but they are generally nasty and/or apathetic, and not helpful. The local code enforcement officer has helped some, but some issues have persisted. They’ve also resorted to throwing garbage/debris in my yard since complaints were filed, which makes me concerned that they are vindictive and might lash out if I get their cat neutered.
So if I capture their cat and take it in to get neutered for free through a local program, are there any legal repercussions?
