I recently adopted a 9 month old cat and i'm not sure if we are a good fit

When I first met him he was quiet and shy so I got him not thinking he would always be like that. That was a stupid idea. After being home with me for two weeks now he has gotten pretty comfortable and im not sure if i am the best caregiver for him. after the first week of being left home alone while i am at work he manged to tear up a good chunk of my carpet. So i thought he would be better in the bathroom I bought him lots of toys hoping he would just play with those but he seems so unhappy in the bathroom. I let him out whenever I am home and he meows at me constantly, steps on my feet every time I walk and chewed up my charger cord. I know he is a kitten and I want to be able to play with him the amount he needs, but I recently got a promotion at work and work 10- 11 hour shifts, five days a week and by the time I get home I am too tired play. I feel like I don't have the time to give him the attention he deserves. I am leaning toward rehoming him so he can have a family that is around more and plays more but I can't tell if rehoming him is best or if I am giving up to soon. None of my family or friends seem to care about this problem and I would really like some advice.... Thanks!
