I have been debating over if i should get a pair of ferrets or a pair of sugar gliders. I already have one 7 year old cat. When she was younger she got along with other cats, but recently, she was around my dads for 6 months and was constantly attacking them. So, Im too nervous to get another cat for that reason.
I do not have the time for a dog. I work all during the day and hour away. I would have to have a healthy adult thats already house broken and pay a dog walker. Plus, get my fence fixed, etc. Not in the cards at the moment.
With that said, I am gone during the day, 5 days a week. I have time in the early mornings and evenings/nights. Which is when these guys would be active anyway and sleep while I am away. I would be capable of taking sugar gliders to work as well and my office is quiet.
There are so many pros to both. The cons to a ferret aould br the time to litter train, though probably totally worth it! And the cost of health complications that seem common such as adrenal disease, blockages, etc. They dont live as long either, which for an animal lover like me will be difficult. The other con is space. I have a small home and i would probably set up an area of the house for them like play pen type enclosure unless i can watch them constantly (and i love playing with animals so it would be often). I do have some concerns with my cat and the ferrets since they must have free wandering time, but again, I would be watching them.
The cons with the sugar gliders is the amount of,cage cleaning that goes beyond a removing a cage liner and litter, plus maybe some accidents. I dont,mind the feeding requirements, that would be fun to me. I like that the ferrets can be potty trained where sugar gliders cannot be.just a plus though. Im also not a fan of being bit, but Im used to it from being aeound a lot of animals and playing.
I am searching for a small pet that can be fun and can chill with me. Either one, I am prepared to meet their needs, but I have no idea which would be best for me. Im torn because Ilike both of them a lot! What are your thoughts?
