Hello reddit,
I'm posting this as kind of a final push to try to find my dog, Oliver. He is an almost 4 year old toy poodle, neutered male, tan/apricot, weighing about 6-7lbs. He has a docked tail.
I've been in and out of treatment for depression and anxiety for as long as I've had him. He was one of 4 puppies that our family dog had, and I raised him from puppyhood.
For a long time, it was just me and Oliver. He was the only thing keeping me alive for a really long time. I barely took care of myself, but I took care of him because he needed me. He loved me and that gave my life worth at a time when I couldn't find any worth in myself. Later, his littermate Charlie joined our little family.
I was admitted to a residential treatment facility in July 2018, leaving Oliver and Charlie to stay with my parents, who also had their sister Ruby. It was difficult to be away from them but my time in residential allowed me to make strides in therapy that I hadn't been able to make in years.
My last week there, Oliver was stolen out of our yard. On Aug 11, 2018, around 11PM, my parents got home and let Oliver, Ruby, and Charlie out into the yard. We have a little fenced off area off the side of our house for them. Three minutes later, they heard a lot of barking and rushed outside. Oliver was gone.
We have coyotes in the area, so that was the first thought. But when my mom came running into the yard, Ruby and Charlie were not cowering or crying as would be expected from a coyote encounter, but rather pressed up against the fence and barking towards the street. They didn't hear any sort of crying or shrieking that an injured dog would have made, rather just barking, more like that towards an intruder. And when my family went out and searched the yard, the street, the neighborhood, there were no signs of any struggle, no blood or fur.
That night, our neighbors across the street were having a party. The street was lined with cars and people walking around. They asked the neighbors if one of their guests may have seen him escape or picked him up by accident. They said no.
We've put up posters everywhere, posted on pawboost, Facebook, visited shelters all in the area. I check craigslist every day to see if someone has found him or may be selling him. I check petharbor every week to see if he's been taken to a shelter somewhere. He wasn't wearing a collar at the time, but he is microchipped.
It's now been over six months, and none of our leads have turned anything up.
In the beginning, I really felt like I couldn't live without him. It felt like I could never get better if he was gone. But I still have Charlie to take care of, and I still have my family and my friends, and I'm slowly learning through therapy to stay alive for myself, too, in addition to everyone I love.
I'm hoping now that someone, anyone, anywhere, could have seen or heard anything about his whereabouts.
I've attached an imgur album with photos of him, and our lost poster. He has two distinctive brown patches on his back that developed after some vaccinations. Charlie and Ruby had them too, but they have faded with time. When he was stolen he still had the darker patches of fur, but they may have faded too.
Any information or advice is appreciated, and thanks for reading.
