Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice. My wife and I have two cats from the same litter, one male and one female, they're almost a year old and they both seem to be healthy and happy cats, both spayed/neutered.
Recently the male cat has developed a taste for string and string like objects. Once my wife caught him eating a lift cord from blinds he chewed off, and another time a shoe lace he chewed off a boot, thankfully both times my wife was able to pull it out of his mouth before the string got too far in his digestive tract, but he had started swallowing both of them.
He doesn't seem to be having any issues using the litter, but I'd be surprised if the only two times he's eaten string my wife happened to be present, plus I've found some other string like objects chewed up, but nothing missing, as far as I'm aware.
If I don't do something to curb this behavior I'll likely, best case scenario, end up with am expensive vet bill. My wife and I were able to train the cats with a spray bottle to keep them from jumping on kitchen counter and digging in to plants. Would putting strings in front of the string eating cat and spraying him if/when he starts eating them work? Should I bring him to the vet for advice? Purge every piece of string from my house?
Just looking for any advice here.
Thanks!
