Adopted a sick dog

I’m sorry if this post is all over the place I am just so upset and angry. On March 22nd my family and I adopted a collie/Shepard/chow mix. We were told she’s 1 year and 3 months. She had some hookworms but was medicated and all clear of that and had all her necessary shots.

It was recommended to take her to a vet within 5 days of adopting to establish a good baseline of health. Everything was good, she was just a little over weight.

I took her in for her spay appointment today and the vet at the animal hospital (not the same one she went for a checkup at), informs me that with the wear n tear on her teeth there’s no way she’s a little over a year and has to he at least 4 or 5. I called the shelter. They had received her from another shelter. The 1st shelter had received her as an owner surrender back in August and they said she was 7 months. Which would explain why we were told she was a year and 3 months since her birthday is 1/5/18. Okay then.

The vet later calls and say during her spray surgery they found an abnormality with her ovary/uterus and she was concerned she had cancer. Then get another call that they took her blood and she has Lyme disease and severe heartworms and wasn’t very stable. There’s a lot more details but that’s the gist of it.

Somewhere along the line within the 2 shelters she’s been in since August, the ball got dropped. We were told the first shelter tested her for heartworms and she was negative. I don’t think any monthly preventative care was taken after that.

All in all, please pray for my dog. We haven’t even had her for 2 weeks. Her name is Lucy. Thank you.
