A long one, tldr at the end.
Yesterday my wife and I adopted two ferrets. They are gorgeous and we love them. We left them in the cage for the first day so they could settle and smell their new home.
Our daughter (18 months) absolutely loves (loved?) them too. We're not going to let her hold them and were trying to keep them separated as much as possible but she'll just sit by the cage and watch them for ages.
Fast forward to an hour ago. We let the boys out to roam the room. Keeping our daughter close to us at first but they were very interested in her and she was giggling and wanting to see them closer. So we let go and she chased them around the room. Which they loved.
Then she fell over and I think one of them thought her foot in her onesie was a toy so he went for it. Biting her ankle multiple times before I could get him off.
We've spoken to doctors and they say she's okay. We've got her some paracetamol and ibuprofen to help calm her down so that concern is out of the way for now.
Obviously we'd like for this not to happen again so I'd like some advice. I don't want to blame the ferret, it's been less than 24 hours since his move, maybe he's still stressed? Maybe he just got a bit rough while having fun?
Tl;Dr. Very new ferret bit 18 month old on her foot/ankle when she was crawling. What are some steps to avoid this happening again?
