I adopted my kitten when she was about 8 weeks old. My roommate had one rabbit at the time. Our original thought was that the rabbit would free-roam in their room and that my cat would spend time in both my room and the rest of the common area. However, the rabbit was moved out into the common area within a short amount of time of us living there. This meant that my cat had to spend more time confined to my room when neither my roommate nor I were at home to supervise, since my cat would try to stalk the rabbit or reach through the bars of the rabbit cage. My cat's anxious behaviour began around that time, with loud crying whenever I had to leave her in my room alone. I kept her occupied with lots of toys so that she wouldn't feel as trapped in the room. As she matured a bit, I was able to give her access to the common area without supervision, as long as the rabbit was in its cage.
A few months ago, my roommate and I had to move houses. We found a larger house with more room for the animals. However, my roommate adopted a second rabbit without prior consultation. This meant that my cat could not have any access to the common area when the rabbits were out of their cages since she has a tendency to run after them. My cat's anxious behaviour when confined to my room escalated at this point. She cries as soon as I leave the room, doesn't seem to touch her food, and most recently developed; she pees on my bed.
I've done almost everything I can at this point. She has lots of toys to play with that are on rotation so she doesn't get bored. She has clean litter at all times (the same litter she's always used so there's no way that could trigger the peeing). I keep my blinds open so she can occupy herself by looking out the window. I've just ordered a pheromone diffuser but I've heard mixed reviews about those.
There's no problem when I leave the house and let her have free roam of it. It's only when I leave her in my room. Any advice would be much appreciated, since I'm not sure what to do anymore.
